MET GALA 2012 IN PICTURES AND WORDS

The Met Gala is often referred to as ‘The Oscar-esque Fashion Show’.  Monday in New York City was the Official Buzzing on the attendees and WHO WORE WHAT.  Staying true to fashion, the ‘Night of Fashion’ didn’t disappoint on an overall review.  Deja Vu U A.D. presents in pictures and words The Bebe Davis review of The Met Gala Fashion.

Look at me: Beyonce poses on the red staircase in front of the media pack

The Costume Institute Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday Night brought out  ’The Celebrated’  in Industry Land. Beyonce’ arrived on the Red Carpet enveloped in Givenchy haute couture. The Givenchy Beyonce’ wore was met with  mixed reviews. BEBE REVIEW:  No Bueno, on Beyonce’ even with my love for Givenchy. Beyonce’ is not giving me ‘peacock’ but she’s giving me ‘parrot’.

This gown is making all kinds of noise for the wrong reasons on such a Diva. I don’t even have my Parrot Bay ‘Freeze and Squeeze’ Pina Colada to sip on.  Can we all forgive Beyonce’? Yes we can because after all if we roll with the costume theme of the evening, she was thinking along these lines I assume.  Kudos for a killer body Post Baby Blue Ivy’s arrival.  Beyonce choice wasn’t her best/elección de Beyonce no era lo mejor.

In the spotlight: The singer poses for the throngs of photographers and TV cameras on the staircase

Rihanna was RAVISHING in the Croc Tom Ford gown. BEBE REVIEW: Rihanna was wearing the dress, not the dress wearing Rihanna/Rihanna llevaba el vestido, no llevaba el vestido de Rihanna. Rihanna could have pulled the look at 100% if not for the failed hair. Deets say she was delayed from arriving on time due to the nails that are so fierce but hey killer bod, in a killer dress, makes up for most that was less to be desired. Envy love on that body and dress.

Military chic: Brady and his wife Gisele Bundchen arrive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit looking perfectly in-tune with matching slicked back hair

Tom Brady and Supermodel Wife Giselle were STUNNING at The Met Gala. Whisper, Whisper, Talk , Talk, yes Tom Brady is rocking a ‘New Do’, love it, yes I do. Others are calling the haircut ‘curious’ oh behave. I smirk and toss my own huge wild mane back with a glass of…. H2O  and a plate of my famous paella. I love men with shoulder length hair to long hair especially when they pull it off right. To me Tom Brady looks great either way.  Now… let’s talk about Giselle.

x

Giselle in Givenchy, Sexy, Classy,Giselle is divine/ Giselle es divino. Giselle is wearing this dress as it should be for every woman. You wear the dress, not the other way around.  If you look at many of  the women attending the Gala, they are showing their faces. Love the pull back looks for this season.

Wet look: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Rosario Dawson and Rihanna all wore their black shiny

Rosario Dawson, una hermosa mujer de color latina, worked this Calvin Klein stunner.  The details on this gown is admired. Clean lines, the kind of gown where you ‘OWN THE LOOK’.  Rosario the earring choice would have been great if the eyes were played up to match. IMO.

Wet look: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Rosario Dawson and Rihanna all wore their black shiny

Had to give you another view…. Rihanna es el fumar caliente.

Taking a risk: Eva Mendes in Prada, Lily Collins and Beyonce all dared to be different with mixed results

Katherine McPhee in Elie Saab is NOICE with it…

Taking a risk: Eva Mendes in Prada, Lily Collins and Beyonce all dared to be different with mixed results

Emma Roberts is definitely on her ‘age appropriateness’ flair and I love that.  Emma is wearing Escada.  The color is lovely for her skintone.

Ladies in red: Chelsea Clinton, Emma Stone and Milla Jovovich donned the colour of romance

Not everyone can pull off  ‘Red’ but First Daughter Chelsea Clinton did in Oscar de la Renta.  Classic designer, classic styled gown, risque n rogue red. Bravo!

Ladies in red: Chelsea Clinton, Emma Stone and Milla Jovovich donned the colour of romance

Emma Stone in LAVIN, fun look, along with her vibe loved it

Silver siren: Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow in Prada works for her, she has the body to work this dress. The fresh face helps complete the look. Some fashionista’s and fashionmista’s did feel this look.  Not sure why and I won’t try to do scenarios. However I will put out there if it had anything to do with age… build that bridge and get over it. If your body is doing the most, with CONFIDENCE even Helen Mirren could pull this off.  I’m stretching it? No…. just blogging it… my thoughts. Oh laugh, it’s good for the soul.  Gwyneth is rocking this dress.

Carey Mulligan

Cery Mulligan wore Prada. I know this was on some WDL but I disagree. I find Cery charming in the dress. Nothing wrong with going a lil gaudy.

x

Up close this dress is so appealing than seeing it from the screen of your computer. Cameron Diaz serves up ‘Glamour’ in Stella McCartney. Free of any accessories the dress along with Diaz is giving much appeal.

Daring: Jessica Chastain, Sarah Jessica Parker and Debra Messing all looked opulent

Delightful was SPJ in Valentino. Valentino head to toe let me add.  Not everyone can pull this off but it works for Sarah Jessica Parker. Love her hair and pink lip. Less on everything else is the fashion etiquette when the gown speaks volumes. No one to curvaceous or ‘plussy’  could pull this off without looking like a curtain. I am curvaceous so it is no bash to curvies or plus divas out in the world of fashion. Now let us carry on.

Belles of the ball: Hilary Swank, Amy Adams and Lea Michele all put in strong performances

Amy Adams wore Giambatista Valli, classic Glamour love it

Belles of the ball: Hilary Swank, Amy Adams and Lea Michele all put in strong performances

Hillary Swank in Michael Kors… Divine.  How do you say Gorgeous? Yes I am so pulling from Dee Lite but yes Swank looks so great in Michael Kors. Chiffon is my ‘ideal’ for all things feminine, sexy, luxe.  This is a beautiful dress and Hillary is wearing it well. Michael Kors I know is proud.

Smart and sharp: Kanye West, Gerard Butler

Kanye West in Givenchy… Magnificent, That pose is too ‘cold’ ♥

Smart and sharp: Kanye West, Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler wore Alexander McQueen, so debonair….

Pharrell Williams looks great, hair color fits, thank goodness not bright blonde.  That would be so… oh well he didn’t do it so super cool.

Zac Posen for La La and Carmelo Anthony Rag n Bone.  Azul se ve tan bien en La La Mujer de mi compañero de color Latina.

Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci ensembles they rocked well, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz. Some say… Alicia could have pulled the look more together? Please… the tails if you had a full view were all that, I am loving the hair pulled back on so many ladies during the gala and Alicia Keys is one of them.

Emily Blunt attends the

Emily Blunt wearing Calvin Klein, truly worked the Red Carpet

Chloe Sevigny

Chloe Sevigny in Miu Miu seem to be missing something. I abhor the shoes.  Usually when Chloe takes a risk it really works. Everyone can’t be ON all the time in the reality of life.  I will give her body a thumbs up on the dress not feeling ‘pinched or ‘pouted’.

Heidi Klum chose to wear Escada. Most times I am feeling the ‘bring it to I’ve brought it’ from Heidi but not this time around.

Stunning! Chanel Iman es encantadora. Las meras palabras no pueden expresar cómo se ve encantadora. Me encanta este vestido, que está haciendo que todo funcione.

Chanel Iman wore Tom Ford and Sashayed in with Tom Ford. They both looked as is they ‘leaped’ from the pages of a glossy, actually the cover of a glossy.  That Look Chanel is giving the paparazzi… Ooh la la.

It’s Prada meets Tom Ford for the couple Jessical Biel and Justin Timberlake.  Of course Biel could have been been more glamour or daring but it’s spring, let the spring fling have it’s way.

Black tie affair: New York Jest player Tim Tebow left his sportswear at home

Tim Tebow actually is putting down some flavor here.  This sincerely goes from my lips, to my keys on this keyboard to God’s ears. ( Pun Intended ) Tebow now a part of the New York  Jet’s Football Team is wearing Ralph Lauren Purple Label Tuxedo. Noice.

Amare Stoudemire of the NY Knicks attended the Gala with Alexis his on again-off-again lady. Amare is wearing Calvin Klein.

Screen shot 2012 05 07 at 23.21.33 PHOTOS: Knicks Attend Met Gala

Alexis is giving leg and  tasteful ink, love it! Hooray  too seeing ladies rocking the more feminine heels without the boxy chunked look. Alexis go girl!

I decided to wear my MARC JACOBS ‘Blush’ today because I am ‘blushing’ with the Devil May Care attitude to ‘unsnob myself’.  You just have to roll with this in the name of fashion. The famous and infamous designer get’s an approval from QUEEN QUEER DEAR, which is my proud nickname from my ‘Lovely Lovies’ which is what I call them ‘in the life’.  The buckles on Marc shoes are so ‘extra’ right now.  I feel if  Marc clicked his heels, it truly would be no place like home for him. The evening is about forward movement so you know… there it is ladies and gents.

Joan Smalls  with  designer Olivier Rousteing, wearing Balmain. I love me some Joan Smalls if you can tell from my the ads and pictorials over at my online magazine 1021Online, I love me some her.  I do find this ‘look’ ill placed because of the Spring Season we are in but the idea could be to say ‘look this is what is upcoming for the line’.  The detail is impeccable and Olivier looks well pulled together he’s giving lots of MODE and saying no fuss no muss.

Diane Von Furstenberg! Madam can be all kinds of  ’Forgiving’ in this dress because in my ‘Rushing To The Next Gig’ the classic ‘wrap dresses’ have made me look so ‘put together’ in the midst of  my chaos moments. I love the neck-wear, gloves, skin, hair. She is simply glowing…

Midas touch: Victoria's Secret model Karolina Kurkova opted for a show-stopping look

Karolina Kurkova shines like literally shines in the Rachel Zoe dress.  It is magnificently ‘In Your Face’, “Here I am’. Not everyone can take on this look but with the body and statuesque grace of Karolina she makes this whole look work. Look at the detail on the back of this dress. Wow.  Now if we want to talk about some things Rachel Zoe is ‘too thin’ I won’t even post that pic.  I wish I could give her some of  my paella.

Designing women: Karolina Kurkova with super-stylist Rachel Zoe, and right, Paula Patton looked stunning in a dramatic bustier and large drop earrings, flashing her beautiful smile as she posed with designer Vera Wang

Vera Wang is ‘too thin’ as well IMO. Here she is with Paula Patton. Now many have given their thoughts on the dress and here is mine. You have to know the designer.  She is wearing Vera… Wang.  It is a beauty that quietly states itself.

Tangerine dream: Kristen Wiig and Ginnifer Goodwin risked clashing with the red carpet in their orange frocks

Ginnifer Goodwin wears Monique Lhuillier.  I love this on Ginnifer. It took me a moment to love her hair but I really do like it. I don’t like the clumpy shoes at all. Fresh face yes, the color really pops for the season and the detail is giving a romantic appeal.  You get that from  Lhuillier.

Here’s what’s really good. Rohan Marley son of Bob Marley on the Red Carpet with Isabeli Fontana. Okay…. Then.  Isabeli gives us Pucci all in our faces. I love Pucci but I am not really feeling this design at all.  Isabeli Fontana is stunning but not enough to wow me in this dress. Rohan is formally relaxed but he works the look very well.

Chris Benz and Julie Macklowe one word FUN!

Stefano Tonchi and Ahn Duong, so classic and elegant

Jessica Stam in Dior Couture looks cute. The dress looks more relaxed than stiff because the accessories are working with not against the design.

OMG I do not like this on Kate Bosworth, Prada or not. Nothing about this… Rather disappointed because Bosworth brings it. Grrr…

Marcus Samuelsson and Maya Haile… Maya is giving me Josephine Baker ‘so done not ‘undone’ aka dressed not under-dress ( Nude ). Samuelsson looks dapper. Is that a ‘hand ink’ I am seeing? Ooh la la… nicely placed. Yes I am being biased ( InkSISTER here Feathered Quill for the ♥ of the written word/ode to my Choctaw GR-Grandmother  ). May I add her  eye brows are NOICE, I just love the CONFIDENCE in this photo.

Milla Jovovichin Prada. She fills this design out nicely. Love the color of her nails and feet, the heels aren’t boxy, the hair, the clutch she OWNS this moment. La Lovovich has been around long enough in fashion to NOT do a Faux pas unless she is on one of those days where I don’t care.  Monday night, she cared and I thank her for that wholeheartedly. Werk!

Noir nous: Linda Evangelista and Marion Cotillard were midnight maidens, Marion's Dior dress had accents of purple

Marion Cotillard in Dior Couture is really speaking to me in a good way.  It is not a WOW  look but it is a look that you can second glance.

Azealia Banks Mizz 212 performed at The Met Gala.  Banks is becoming a ‘Designer Darling’ as far as new up and coming artists.  Despite being ‘ a lil too mouthy’ on twitter, which I feel she will calm it all down, she is making her way in the ‘right circles’.  With an album to be released in much anticipation by many, here she is with designer Alexander Wang. Azealia Banks is wearing a Alexander Wang custom design.  I would love to see her experiment with different looks for her hair. I am sure as she evolves so will her style.

Visit LOLITA’S BLISS ENTERTAINMENT REPORT as I give my vibe to Azealia Banks MUSIC TAKEOVER. Scroll through the recent shows and press play. Yes it is a moment where I didn’t take myself seriously but the music and reporting, yes always seriously- enough. ( smiles and eats more paella )

To get this ensemble Lady Anna Wintour is giving us, you must know your FASHION or just follow the fashion blogs who will give you detail.  Lady Wintour is giving homage to  The theme for the event is “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.”  Homage goes to Prada for giving their designer take on Elsa Schiaparelli’s  ’lobster dress’.  Anna wears it well and her signature ‘bob’  truly makes this look rather ‘Classic Glam’.

Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer

Arizona Muse and Erdem Moralioglu/ Met Gala

Natalia Vodianova and Valentino Garavani. Valentino dress is lovely on a small frame with the dynamics of the gown details.

Janelle Monae looks great in her ensemble. So many people are saying they didn’t know she had such a great figure.  IDK how they were looking at her, maybe the tux  and hair ensembles just had them in a ‘fixed state of mind’.   I think she looks great, truly she could be a great MUSE for a designer.

Rick Ross attended the Gala posing here with Chef Marcus Samuelsson

Solange Knowles was the Epitome of Elegance in the Rachel Roy custom made gown.  From the hair, skin, accessories, Solange is GLOWING one of the TOP LIKES of my perusal  various fashion looks at The Met Gala.

Frock star: Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev wore a black and gold confection

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan is adorable.  I have no flaws to talk about on how she is so put together.  Take this gown and place it on another and I just don’t know.  I am not even trying to envision it.  Nina OWNS the moment in this gown because you don’t notice how ‘busy’ this could start to look.  Maybe ‘busy’ on another but not on Nina Dobrev.  Quite a ‘bold’ move to me when upon seeing her she wouldn’t be placed as ‘bold’… and there is the beauty of why this works… Expect the Unexpected.  The MANTRA to me on how fashion should be for anyone whether you have a ‘signature style’ or not.

As I conclude, there is more to view. Go further inside to get complete IN THE KNOW MOMENTS on The Met Gala.  Definitive ‘Style’  varies from one person to the next.  Go with what makes you feel good, you have to wear it, others don’t. You know YOU, so OWN it.  When you OWN IT, it is 100% Confidence and CONFIDENCE is signature.  Now let me know what you think?

I’m about to go HACK THE PLANET with this song playing in my head after pressing play. Yes Bebe is about to watch HACKERS.  Thanks for visiting THE DEJA.  Stay eternally youthful, so that your fashion sense and overall sense doesn’t become cynical and bitter, be BRILLIANT.

you’ve been deja vu’d,

TALKING HAIR | A Moment With Bebe

Though they’re EXCELLENT protective styles,  the ‘up do’ have always been a favorite of mine.  I like switching up  my hair sometimes because most of the time this THICK LONG CURLY HAIR OF MINES just hangs after doing a half hour to hour blowout  ( not fond of my God Given curls which is sacrilege I know ).   I usually rock my hair  looking between the 1970′s early 80′s Chaka and THE BOSS Diana  style -wild, flowing and free aka BED HED.  Though it may take up to three hours, sleek  up do’s are well worth it for me to rock from time to time.

Not only are the ‘up do’s elegant, they are very versatile. Ponytails, love them! As the season progresses, I shall have some cool vitamin cocktails for the hair I want to share, along with  some cool moisturizing souffles I want to share with you all via deja post and on my online talk show that resumes next month.  Though I don’t rock my curly hair much, I shall be curly possibly a week out the month or two weeks out the month  as we move closer to winter. Though I say it’s my DIVA  LOOK, let me stop the frontin – LOL

As soon as this hair is washed after  rocking my faithful blowout, it curls up.  I put on a good amount of leave in conditioner that moisturizes my hair, shape it as it does the shrinkage and that’s it.  It is easy to maintain, so it’s more LAZY LOOK than DIVA LOOK because the curls surprisingly are easier to keep up.  I have to blowout my hair every three days to keep me from looking like CURLYLOCKS  ( my sense of humor is off the Richter scale ) especially if I am in Florida where humidity is ooh.  Other states/cities on the east coast like ATL,GA, Charlotte, NC, SC VA, DC, MD, PA etc leaves my hair dry but not as bad as like the mid-west.  The west coast depending on where I am leaves my hair dry like the east or pretty much humidified like FLORIDAHHHHHHHH.

A good friend of mine had brunch with me a few weeks ago before moving from NYC to LA to continue flourishing with her magazine and screenplays. She’s always had a thick mane of beautiful hair.  Just seeing the cute curls, how she maintains healthy hair too had me sitting there saying as we finished brunch with red velvet cupcakes, “Bebe… rock your curls more girlie.”  Bebe is an ADVOCATE for  women maintaining the EDGES of  their hair not being BALD around the EDGES.   The disappearing act of edges happens as women rock extensions caring more about the hair they purchased than their own.  Everyone is not blessed with a head full of hair so rock your extensions but maintain healthy hair no matter the hair type or length.  The code, maintain healthy hair chicas.

I plan on rocking a few up do’s.  They’re cute, flirty and if done right they can have a wicked flair of dominatrix ( wink ).  More post to come.  Love talking hair, sharing and hearing what you have to say should you leave a comment at the DEJA.  Here’s a few styles to enjoy.

THE NO HOSTAGE CLOSET | Oh What A Relief It Is

I couldn’t help myself, such a SATC fan and  ( ahem ) I am so Carrie-esque with a MR. BIG.  I swarzzz  ( my southern exposure shining through ) the writer’s invaded my personal life and put it on blast yet I have all the anonymity a lady could ask for.  Yay me… yes YAY… ME!

THE NO HOSTAGE CLOSET

Of course it wouldn’t hurt to have a closet like Carrie did in SATC Movie I where Mr. Big truly came through like a brilliant emerald.  What I do have, that the Carrie’s of  The World ( can’t get enough of coveting this or that ) doesn’t is THE NO HOSTAGE CLOSET.  Rare indeed but I don’t find myself saying anymore, “I don’t have anything to wear” no mater how spontaneous the moment is or the occasion.

How long did it take you BEBE to get the NHC?

Actually it took about eight years give or take.  For me that is awesome because I  don’t go shopping every month for the various fashion pieces that signatures a closet.  I looked for vintage pieces to give the biggest ODDS on  the whole vibe of ‘Who Rocked It Better’ moment.  Seeing some AMAZING women in my family over the years have their own versions of the No Hostage Closet, reading countless magazines over the years on ‘Essentials’ for a woman’s closet, meeting friends from college, speaking to strangers on VAY CAY in and out of the US, and most importantly discovering my OWN SIGNATURE STYLE, Thus I have my own NO HOSTAGE CLOSET.  Bravo I must say.

Some days you just want jeans and a t-shirt, funking it up with some pearls sometimes, nothing like those LBD for various occasions.  Sometimes the LBD can be flirty, librarian-esque, dominatrix, corporate chic, romantic and so forth.  There’s something about real jewelry the whole intimacy of it all, the backstories behind each piece and then there’s something about how fun your costume jewelry is.  BEBE LOVES HER BAUBLES.

My clothes are the reflection of me and I love that.  I didn’t betray myself but enhanced myself.  Do that for you too, should the desire be there.  One thing is for sure, can’t stress it enough, it takes time to get there to your NO HOSTAGE CLOSET.  It is not about the money.  Many have the money, yet never satisfied about what is in their closet, only concerned about what is lacking. It is TRULY about the right time, the right moment of acquiring, inheriting, the things that will make your closet truly satisfying for you and you only.

To my NO HOSTAGE CLOSET fashionista’s no matter the gender, you may not have taken as long as I have but it truly feels good to be in this exclusive club.  To those who look forward to joining, it will be well worth the moment.  It doesn’t mean you won’t ever feel the need to splurge, for if this is what you thought, you missed the whole point.  To have the NO HOSTAGE CLOSET it when you arrive, the feeling is UNFORGETTABLE just as you should be.

LEATHER TALK | As Fall Season Approaches

Vintage J Sully 70′s Trench @ Sustalux

Fall Season is approaching.  Thought I’d give it a go on some of my ‘Seasonal Habits’ as far as fashion goes.  It took me about 8  years give or take to have NO HOSTAGE CLOSET.  The NHC for me is the kind of closet where there’s no panic for something to wear no matter the occasion, no matter the given time – I am covered.  It wasn’t always this way but I am glad it is now.

The Fall Season is rapidly approaching and it is time for me to see my Furrier and Leather Cleaner to get my coveted pieces ready for another Fall Season. Mothball Madame here, which keeps precious pieces in tact but that is not enough.  This post I will focus on the leather.  The photo above really caught my eye because I have a trench almost identical to to it.

It is really cool to have a Professional Leather Cleaner take care of your precious leather.  Yearly cleaning is not necessary but at least three years no more than five years are great time frames to see THE CLEANER.  Weather exposure,  oils from your own skin can cause your leather not to be at supple, peak performance.  Proper care can go a long way for you.

While I lead a busy lifestyle, which at times I could slow down to clean my own leather, I just don’t.  Every leather is different with it’s own temperamental tendencies.  I don’t want to contribute to any disasters to FREAK ME OUT,  so I let the Professionals do their thing and I maintain.

Once you have your leather FIERCE, it is time to go out into the world and let the complete look be seen.  Who else is ready for FALL?

you’ve been deja vu’d,

BEBE
