In the words of the late Don Cornelius LOVE, PEACE AND SOUL.
You know, I cannot call it BI-COASTAL living but I call it BOHEMIAN living. As a proud Floridian Afro-Cubana, it made total sense to be a property owner whether on the inheritance vibe, settlement factors or saving over the years doing some smart investing when the market was PRIME. Coming from humble beginnings, I saw the pride in my GRANDS being entrepreneurs and acquiring property for themselves and eventually their heirs. Costs of living has changed over the decades, families got bigger but the ELDERS were serious about alot of things but one thing comes to mind for this post.
The one thing that was instilled, KEEP PROPERTY. Yes I am that BOHEMIAN. It makes total sense to me to head south during cold temperatures when I can. While I love the northern temperatures, blessed to head south to my other destination. Nothing like Florida, nothing like going home to Tampa to see my family and NOTHING LIKE heading to the diggs I proudly love in Miami!!!
My name ‘Benita’ is such a dead giveaway when having conversations in Miami, vacationing in Cancun, Puerto Rico, Spain, Dominican and more. Negra Latina? is how it starts off and the conversations just get better and better. You gotta stay passport ready making sure you have the opportunity to see the world alone or with someone ( with someone is priceless ). Passports are less than $200.00 get one, no matter if it takes you a year to save it up— I am no snob do it. You will so glad you did. Make life an adventure. Miami is an adventure for sure!
As for me, MIAMI is my SKY HIGH, not just for the networking factor, partying factor -though ( lol ) the party scene is awesome, but mostly the culture and vibe are tops -STRAIGHT TOPS! Let’s talk M!Y!AMI!!!

I could go on and on about MIAMI but I do like it so thus I BODY MYSELF HERE. Very blessed to do so. I love LAKE LIFE too, so I make it all WORK in the Carolinas. Bohemian LIFESTYLE. Those who know me… it’s always “Where you at now?” Just sharing a moment on the personal blog.
Every city isn’t for everybody.
Diverse tastes, the beauty of life.
Awesome Out your WEEKEND! Me? Packing bags!

Nina Mae McKinney was here…
Nina Mae McKinney also known as The Black Bardot wasn’t fully celebrated in life. Not suprising because most ‘Roses are given after someone has left earth’s scene. I had covered Nina Mae many years ago. When you are in the company of the elders, you get so much history. Being that my maternal family is from Bishopville South Carolina, the talk of famous South Carolinians came up. Nina Mae McKinney was one of the famous people. I was feeling nostalgic, and sentimental. It was time to make a move per my mood. My mother was visiting with me. We were having a great time in Charlotte, and then the epiphany hit me. It was time for a quick road trip to take on history. I wanted to go back in time and feel a rush that I could not find in a book, or a television special.
Mom and I made our way to Lancaster SC.
Lancaster South Carolina is home to black actress Nina Mae McKinney. Too many times we overlook so much history that surrounds us, that is not far from us. I was ready to explore and just feel something that day. I wasn’t disappointed. It took me no time to get to Lancaster, a town filled with much history. Heading to the heart of MAIN STREET, there on the brick wall was a mural of Lancaster Greats. One was Nina May McKinney.

The Black Harlowe, Nina Mae McKinney
I pulled my ride into the park, and couldn’t get out quick enough to feel the last sunrays of the sunset on my face – plus to see the murals without the use of the reliable squints. There before my mother and me was the painting of Nina Mae McKinney. I was feeling things I could not explain.
Though Nina Mae did not spent the majority of her life in the charming town of Lancaster South Carolina -the roots, where it all started was here. There’s much to say about that. The product of whence one comes says alot about a person. Many love to throw around the saying, “It’s not where you are from.” I will stop there because where you are from, the genesis is a part of you always. It is where you are and it is where you came from. As I stood there on ‘Hollow Ground’ I felt balanced.
There was this moment that is really unexplainable. As I looked at the potrait, I felt many things, much emotion. Mom and I took it all in with the beauty of silence present with us. I felt the spirit of curiosity shrinking away letting ‘Peace Be Still’ have it’s way. Peace definitely had it’s way!
As we headed to the car, I looked back once more. Maybe it was the whole intoxication of what I was feeling but the potrait of Nina Mae McKinney seem to smile a bit letting me know, you came, you saw, you conquered – the experience. The next time you are in or near Lancaster South Carolina, stop on by Main Street! You can’t miss the brick building and the mural.
It is worth the view.

No Passport Needed Americans!
Charleston South Carolina is a historic city filled with much charm, southern elegance, gullah loveliness, Charleston also known as Chucktown has such rich cuisine it fills the most ecletic pallette. There is much to experience.
I traveled Mother’s Day 2010 to Charleston. It was mom and I enjoying! There’s nothing like a well planned trip and we SCORED in this aspect. Accomodations were great, nice city views, again it was a SCORE vay cay! Omigosh that was my word all the visit, “Mom we’re on VAY CAY.”
We dined with family friends and did a lil shopping on DAY ONE. Ladies love to dine and ladies love to shop most times and we fulfilled both grand style. The weather was humid DAY ONE but we were dressed in cotton cool attire. After the dining and shopping mom and I went on our own to The Battery. We took a few pictures, and enjoyed the view as the sunset bowed to us.
DAY TWO, we headed over to Sullivan’s Island. The weather clear, high 70′s.
Ravenel Bridge, Awesomness
From the lighthouse to the beautiful homes, pubs, foodie experience, Sullivan’s Island is a delight. Mom and I enjoyed the day on Sullivan’s, then we headed over to Isle of Palms.

The Isle Of Palms certainly lives up to it’s name.
DAY THREE
We made our ways to Kings Street For Some Shopping And Window Shopping.

Who doesn’t love King Street If Familiar With Charleston! Shop Til You Drop!

Mom and I showed The Angel Oak Trees Mad Luv as we graced through the winding roads of John’s Island! Beautiful! Experience the love of ‘The Oak’. I will return in a few weeks for Spoleto Arts Festival! I just love Charleston.
Visit Soon!

Touching down was easy enough, getting ready for THE SUPERBOWL!
Accomodations are very importnat to me. I like to know the skinny on the amenities. From 5 star hotels on down, I am so not on that NEED TO KNOW basis. I need to know STRAIGHT UP. ( laughing ) I’m sure some feel me!
Does the accomodations have a microwave, mini refridge, mini bar, kitchenette, pull out sofa, great view, how’s the carpet as far as my allergies goes, the lighting in the room, the bathroom, jacuzzi, late check out option, and more. Between you and I, I LOVE LATE CHECK OUT!
I’ve experienced late check outs from 2pm but the 5pm late check outs are the very best! I am a stickler for the housekeepers not annoying me every thirty minutes around the 11am hour when I am a late check out person. Successfully I’ve taken care of that irritating moment. I know how it is to want to get your work done but feel my care. If I am late check out and you keep coming back to the door, there’s a problem. You are bugging me on purpose, and you are wanting me or my guest to go off. You’re served.
Trust me I will!
So to not be so awful because I am a great guest when at hotels, I make sure it is NOTED, no disturbances late check out. When it is adamantly stated, I don’t get the interruptions. If this is an irk to you, this is an option for you. Be Professional but very adamant about not wanting to be disturbed.
Trips like Superbowl Weekend is not to be taken lightly but yes you should try to pack lightly. If you can afford it, try to do some shopping in the area for some cool outfits. A weekend like this should be to enjoy not to be overloaded with heavy bags, extra charges for bags.
The old saying is true, you truly get what you pay for. When you want to indulge, go ahead. There’s nothing like having that jacuzzi in your room with the jets going off on the tense muscles relaxing you just how you deserve. Dining at the hotel restaurant is not always a must for some but I tell ya, you can find some of the best entrees. Many hotels give you great specials in these economic times, so take advantage of them and enjoy your moments.
It’s gonna be a blast this weekend in Miami. Always watch your surroundings, watch your drinks, if rooming with many friends keep that open mind to some wild out vacation behavior that could ruin friendships. Some things you overlook, or clear some things on your mind so everyone is on the clear. Never assume someone knows the expecations of keeping the trip CALM, COOL AND COLLECTED. Stay in constant contact with friends if you decide to go off with someone you just met. I don’t even think that is cool. You just met them, stay with your friends, and if they are truly interested, communications can begin from initial contact and keep going after the HYPED WEEKEND is over. You will truly see the true interest.
I am so glad to be a part of THE SUPERBOWL DANCE this weekend in Miami! If you see me around, say hello! I am a people person and a sports fanatic! My team is The Tampa Bucs but I am rooting for The Colts but good luck to both teams. The parties are going to be so LIVE, a non-stop weekend.
Enjoy The Accomodations, Enjoy Miami, and wherever you are ENJOY!
