Many people tuned into HLN NEWS intensely with their coverage surrounding WHITNEY HOUSTON’S 1963-2012 death. Nancy Grace of HLN had legendary Pastor Shirley Caesar on the phone to discuss Whitney Houston. Grace started the introduction stating how Pastor Shirley Caesar sung with Whitney before and how she went behind stage to give counsel to Whitney and Bobby Brown. While I found that part of the introduction weird, seems as if I wasn’t the only one who thought so. With CNN’s Don Lemon on the segment, Pastor Shirley Caesar began to speak.
Pastor Shirley Caesar began to speak about how not only did Whitney have issues as many knew, as Nancy Grace addressed- Shirley Caesar said Nancy along with the media had issues too. The next thing I hear is a disconnect as Nancy appears not to be ready for this moment. From the disconnect HLN’s Nancy Grace show went to commercial. Upon the show’s return, Nancy is looking directly into the camera stating (unquote) she was not a basher of Whitney Houston. Pastor Shirley Caesar was no longer on the line, no mention of her and Don Lemon was silent. Well done Don, you already know when mama is speaking, shush it. Nancy did shush it too so I will acknowledge that.

Watchers of this segment took to HLN’s FACEBOOK page to give their thoughts on the unprofessional way things were handled. Nancy is so up front with people, this should have been a moment where she could take as well as she gives. Agree to disagree right? Piers was obnoxious poor Soledad had to keep focusing back on what was important. CNN you need to fire him and beg Larry King to come back. BET you needed to let the choir be heard and not so much the in studio guest. smh Too bad Nancy couldn’t handle Pastor Shirley Caesar. I was really shocked at the way it all went down. Nancy could have gotten Pastor Caesar on the line again, talk offline and then go from there. It all comes down to respect and professionalism. Hopefully this will be a learning lesson. HLN had Mrs. Caesar back on so I will say it didn’t go down in flames on a bigger scale but the stain is there for Nancy but as with anything let’s move on. I do know Nancy won’t forget Shirley Caesar. lol

For years the media wasn’t as sympathetic to Whitney’s fall from big fame when she starting drugging in the open. No one was saying let us help you girlfriend get it together in a big way. I’m watching Dr. Drew now and as much as I love Sheryl Lee Ralph let’s be honest through the greatness Whitney was deeply flawed.No doubt she was raised right but she strayed. I am not without imperfections but to just talk about the high’s that’s denial and sending a wrong message. Which leads me to say, Shirley Caesar had an attitude when she came on that phone. When doing interviews one should be civilized and keep composure. Who know what further she was going to say. Now I would not have acted like my network didn’t call her that was wrong but come on, we need to keep it all real. Hoping they don’t coddle Bobbi Kris. Addictions will kill you if you don’t take on the lifelong fight and watch who you hang around and where you hang out.

Positive has it’s place but it doesn’t help sugar coating addicts. Many try to get get clean but it’s hard. By going to rehab she took steps but radical interventions could have taken place. Maybe it was guilt or something that kept the mother of Whitney to make that move. Tough love can keep people alive. All I know with everyone pointing fingers less help is being done for addicts sobriety. It just looked like denial to me on what battles Whitney faced from others. Why should anyone get offended at the truth of someone’s low points? Shirley isn’t above fault in being offensive on HLN either. She was more calmer on Saturday. Right?
Yes but the point is Sheryl Lee Ralph wasn’t trying to sugar-coat anything. Addictions are considered a disease but many people look at it from a point of just stay away from the drug. Your body, your brain, your persona is deeply affected with drugs. The support system needs to be more TOUGH LOVE but it doesn’t always happen. An addict can be very draining on the family – a family who shows tough love. I cannot even get into the adverse affects it has but you seem to be familiar with is so you should know. Everyone doesn’t make it, I repeat everyone does not make it and those that don’t many of them try. They try real hard but the addiction usually overtakes them. The ones who find the sobriety they know they have to really set themselves apart from that world they were into. I don’t think Shirley Caesar was being offensive for no cause. The introduction should have been about Shirley and her relationship with Houston not the so called added reprimand moment Nancy spoke about concerning Whitney, Bobby and Shirley. Thanks for posting.
Punkin you spoke too quick Sheryl Lee Ralph talked about addictions and that when people are addicted to drugs they are not themselves. No one is giving anyone an out, but to sum up her life as just with the drugs, is being premature. Bottom line on Nancy vs Shirley Nancy should have just let the woman speak. Believe me Nancy has heard worse and dealt with worse. Maybe emotions were too close for both of them regarding the late Whitney Houston.
Let’s face it when we now speak of Whitney Houston her addictions will not be left out. That is not a negative thing really but a word of caution to others too caught in the flashing lights of fame. We cannot always look at addictions as negative when those who died can possibly save another’s life. God rest Whitney’s soul.

So if you feel upset when people talk about your favorite celebrity like Whitney or whomever you gotta ignore them. Nothing anyone can say or do to her now.
