Though they’re EXCELLENT protective styles, the ‘up do’ have always been a favorite of mine. I like switching up my hair sometimes because most of the time this THICK LONG CURLY HAIR OF MINES just hangs after doing a half hour to hour blowout ( not fond of my God Given curls which is sacrilege I know ). I usually rock my hair looking between the 1970′s early 80′s Chaka and THE BOSS Diana style -wild, flowing and free aka BED HED. Though it may take up to three hours, sleek up do’s are well worth it for me to rock from time to time.
Not only are the ‘up do’s elegant, they are very versatile. Ponytails, love them! As the season progresses, I shall have some cool vitamin cocktails for the hair I want to share, along with some cool moisturizing souffles I want to share with you all via deja post and on my online talk show that resumes next month. Though I don’t rock my curly hair much, I shall be curly possibly a week out the month or two weeks out the month as we move closer to winter. Though I say it’s my DIVA LOOK, let me stop the frontin – LOL
As soon as this hair is washed after rocking my faithful blowout, it curls up. I put on a good amount of leave in conditioner that moisturizes my hair, shape it as it does the shrinkage and that’s it. It is easy to maintain, so it’s more LAZY LOOK than DIVA LOOK because the curls surprisingly are easier to keep up. I have to blowout my hair every three days to keep me from looking like CURLYLOCKS ( my sense of humor is off the Richter scale ) especially if I am in Florida where humidity is ooh. Other states/cities on the east coast like ATL,GA, Charlotte, NC, SC VA, DC, MD, PA etc leaves my hair dry but not as bad as like the mid-west. The west coast depending on where I am leaves my hair dry like the east or pretty much humidified like FLORIDAHHHHHHHH.
A good friend of mine had brunch with me a few weeks ago before moving from NYC to LA to continue flourishing with her magazine and screenplays. She’s always had a thick mane of beautiful hair. Just seeing the cute curls, how she maintains healthy hair too had me sitting there saying as we finished brunch with red velvet cupcakes, “Bebe… rock your curls more girlie.” Bebe is an ADVOCATE for women maintaining the EDGES of their hair not being BALD around the EDGES. The disappearing act of edges happens as women rock extensions caring more about the hair they purchased than their own. Everyone is not blessed with a head full of hair so rock your extensions but maintain healthy hair no matter the hair type or length. The code, maintain healthy hair chicas.
I plan on rocking a few up do’s. They’re cute, flirty and if done right they can have a wicked flair of dominatrix ( wink ). More post to come. Love talking hair, sharing and hearing what you have to say should you leave a comment at the DEJA. Here’s a few styles to enjoy.

Known in the Music Industry simply as SYLVIA, those familiar with her work remember a lady who was ahead of her time when it comes to ground breaking moments. Lady Sylvia Robinson passed away from this earthly life today at the age of 75. Sylvia is known to many, especially the younger generation as the Mother of Hip Hop. Forming Sugar Hill Records, named for the famous neighborhood ‘Sugar Hill’ in NY, Robinson would introduce the world to the Sugar Hill Gang, ‘Rappers Delight’ and the legendary song ‘The Message’. For others more familiar with her career before this moment her revolutionary impact spans decades.
Sylvia worked with many artist in the 1950′s, 1960′s, 1970′s and beyond as a singer, musician, producer and a label record executive. Notably were the relationship with the musical group The Moments and their hit ‘LOVE ON A TWO WAY STREET’, Produced by Sylvia. A favorite song of mine ‘Sho Nuff Boogie’ with the Moments was always a groove among myself as a young child and THE AUNTIES that let you groove when the parents were away. The infamous PILLOW TALK that raced to the charts for the number one position was offered to Al Green but he turned it down. It is a SIGNATURE song for Lady Sylvia.
Sylvia to me was revolutionary because she made it okay for women to embrace their sensual sides without the ‘obligation factor or to get a man factor’. This moment came at a time where it was taboo for the everyday woman to be okay with being expressive in their wants, desires and their admiration for a man putting down how they wanted – not just sexually but more than that… always more than that. Sylvia would go on throughout her career with other songs embracing the sensual side, the pioneer before other young artist who came decades after her.
Another favorite song for me was Sylvia’s remake of Marvin Gaye’s ’You Sure Love To Ball’ and the infectious “Next Time I See You’ where the bass carries you away along with Sylvia’s sensual vocals. Many pay tribute to this pioneer and I do the same. May the family find comfort in their loss. Yes music enthusiast and admirer of Sylvia’s work, we’ve loss a legend.
Rest In Peace Lady Sylvia
you’ve been deja vu’d,
BEBE
