Flashback: Jasmine Guy ‘Just Want To Hold You’

Jamsine Guy’s ‘Just Want To Hold You’ is one of those for the season grooves that is timeless in arrangement, lyrics and vocals very solid – It’s a GROOVE. The Year was 1990, the self-titled album was released to some good reviews- especially during the popularity of A Different World and the character Guy played, ‘Whitley Gilbert’.  Where were you when this song came out?

  • How old were you?
  • Were you even born?
  • Where were you working?
  • Who was your S.O.S.?
  • Still have the same friends now?
  • Do you even remember the song?
  • Do you have the cd in your collection?
  • Are you glad to be introduced to the song?

Whatever your answers are, it is definitely worth the listen.  Some say it’s alright to go back in time and I say for sure it’s definitely alright.

  1. Look at FINE WHITLEY. LOL I was 21 when this song came out, I was working as an asst manager at this men’s clothing store, I was playing the field no one special, yup same friends, two died out of the crew already, I don’t have this cd. Good post Bebe. She should have continued with the music but she does great on the stage.

  2. Awesome job, indeed this is old school. think I am going to put this on replay two more times. lol Jasmine Guy is so beautiful. They don’t make them songs like this too much anymore.

  3. I’ve died and gone to heaven, thank you B! I remember this song and it brought back some bittersweet memories. This is that good R&B right here.

  4. Love this jam, thanks for posting this. Many could take a few lessons in less is more. Let the music speak for you not how naked you can get. I forgot about this song but you definitely made me smile today. Thanks deja!

  5. I think too many people couldn’t get past her character ‘Whitley Gilbert’ but I loved this song. I wish Jasmine Guy would have made more albums. She is really talented. I will take this over anything R&B out here today. Bring back good ole romance songs with great lyrics. This is a blast from the past.
