I am Afro-Cuban but I have some friends, great friends who are of the  Puerto Rican descent!  The 53rd Annual Parade happened  Sunday June 13 in New York City.  What is the purpose of the parade? It is an celebration of the culture, traditions of Puerto Ricans.

Puerto Rican Day Parade 2010

Revelers come out to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Puerto Rican Day Parade along Fifth Avenue on Sunday.

The festivities of the 50th annual event include 100 floats, dozens of performers, celebrities, politicians, as well as the parade’s first-ever king - pop star Ricky Martin.
