Majestic! Michael Jackson 1958-2009

Michael Jackson 1958-2009 — Unbelievable yet it is a reality.  The world experienced a great loss Thursday June 25, 2009.  The King Of Pop was dead.  At the age of 50, the fans, the critics, the naysayers, the uplifters, those on the fence of  being for him or against him I feel at some point felt some emotion of humility. As in the picture, Michael Jackson was all for peace.  Many watched in awe as Michael Jackson the child burst upon the music scene along with his brothers. Jackson along with his brothers, known as The Jackson Five were seasoned performers.  Hits after hits, after hits exploded on the radio airwaves, and classic television shows gave many the opportunity to witness the pure talent of Michael Jackson and his brothers.

Like every bright, bright shining star, Michael Jackson would not be denied his star to blaze bright.

There are many moments I am so blessed to have witnessed, yes 1971 was a wonderful year.  From 1974 on, my memory of factual accounts of many moments in time were moments I witnessed, not researched and for that my humility goes very deep.

I remember watching The Jackson’s Variety Show on CBS ( 1976 ) and was just in awe over seeing persons of color doing it major, competing thoroughly with the ever popular Osmond Family ( Donny & Marie ).  Prior to this, the Jackson’s had their on cartoon show, crossing the colors lines, just doing it major as it was never done before. Through all the highs and the lows, there was more to be seen, changes to be made, history to make, scandal to endure, victory to gain.

Living life in the public eye is never easy.  Despite the fragile, child-like persona, Michael was a Man of Steel.  He embraced the love shown from fans all over the world, yes all over the world.  He embraced the snickerings of how his looks were transformed, Michael Jackson also endured the critics, and scandals.

Jackson was a lover of animals, he loved children, he loved people, he spoke of many positives and when angered you could tell, this pained him to even display this form of emotion – yet not be twisted Michael Jackson let you know what he was feeling.  This spoke volumes on many levels. Many like to reflect on the darksides of this Icon but I’d rather focus on the music.  Why is that Bebe?  I’d rather focus on the music and the positives because Michael Jackson wasn’t found guilty for the charges he was accused of.  When not found guilty to some doesn’t mean he wasn’t guilty but for me, it means NOT GUILTY OF ANYTHING.

Indeed Michael Jackson is THE KING OF POP.  While many love to say the album THRILLER was their  favorite (  respected ), the album OFF THE WALL was my favorite.  The Thriller Album was genius in my opinion because the shroud of mystery of his sexuality, his quirks,  and eccentric behaviors seem to take a life of their own.  I remember the oxygen chamber Michael placed himself in to sleep, the masks he wore, wanting the ‘Elephant Man’s Bones’ and more.  Was all of this well crafted  to keep the followers following?  Some say the Publicist  for Jackson did a very good job in keeping the intrigue alive.  Michael was on the industry scene at a very golden time, meeting greats  that came before him, and meeting greats that came along with him.   From Studio 54,  Broadway,  meeting people from various cultural backgrounds, performing all over the world, exclusive invites, Michael Jackson was indeed living in the Industry Golden Time.

UP NEXT… The Songs…

Fans of Michael Jackson all have different responses when it comes to their favorite songs.  COME ON GET HAPPY!  Get happy because Michael Jackson left some great music for us to enjoy! Not only do fans enjoy the solo music, they enjoy the music he did with his brothers, janet, and don’t you dare forget Rebbie! Centerpede was the  ULTIMATE JAM.  I really like the slow jams.  Michael gives that smooth long flow.  The slow jams aren’t cut off where it disapoints and I love that about how Michael Jackson worked the smooth slow jams.  Songs full of hope, songs full of joy, songs full of love, songs full of awareness, Michael Jackson took us on a musical journey and we the fans love him for that.  It is an honor to give tribute to such an amazing person and it is in the works for my online presence 1021Online.com and my online talk show The GoldVault1021® Talk Show that airs Sunday’s @ 11pm est.  I’ve compiled some great tunes, yeah some of my favorites, and some rarities that the fans are sure to enjoy.  Love lives forever and so does the spirit, the music, of Michael Jackson.

FACING THE PHYSICAL LOSS OF A LOVED ONE

The BET AWARDS that aired June 28 brought artist together to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson through song, dance, laughter and much deep reflection.  Janet Jackson took to the stage adn it was a very solemn moment.  Very dignified, she wanted to express that though we see him as an Icon, they see him as a brother.  I can relate so well.   This is my first post since being in a tragic car accident that took the life of my grandfather June 18 — I was involved along with my mother.  We were the blessed survivor’s as my car was ran off the road, hitting several trees.  With bruises and broken bones life is much richer than ever before and appreciated in my terrible loss.  The sadness of my grandfather not surviving is more pain than I’ve ever felt in my life.  He was a great man who was a public figure.  In the face of coming to grips with the flashbacks of the horrific moments, I had to step it up.  There is a time to grieve, a time to put it aside to do what is best as far as representation when in this kind of situation.  I admire the way Janet handled the appearance, it is not an easy thing to do.  You’d rather be by yourself and deal with the pain or be with family members.  It is not the case when you must do what you must to represent someone who not only you loved but many loved as well.

Is it different, the love between the family and non-family?  Yes and this is what Janet explained to the people.  Michael Jackson was so many things to so many people.  He touched lives in so many ways and yes that is so great.  I am sure the relationship was great too with others besides family.  For the family members who shared a great bond with Michael, for the mother Mrs. Katherine Jackson who gave birth to such a phenomenon, their pain, their sorrow is much different.  June 2009 will always be a very tough month for me and my loss and a tough month for The Jacksons and their loss.  The pain remains, the loss creates a void never to be filled yet life goes on.  Everyday you find a way to move on to the next moment in your life and make life without your loved one as tolerable as you can.  I’ am a believer that the spirit is still felt, and the memories can flood your soul with a sense of calm.

Godspeed to Michael Jackson.  May he find so much happiness into the next phase beyond the sky.  May the family and the fans be filled with more good days than bad days. Especially to the family when the others have come to grips quicker than we, when the phones stop ringing so much, when the cards of sympathy stop coming, when the visits lessen, when it’s just you and your complete thoughts — Surround yourself with positivity and if of the faith of a higher being, lean and depend on the Creator Of Life to bring more joy to your life.  Love lives forever and I will always remember the special moments Michael Jackson gave to my life.  Long live his music.  THE KING OF POP REMEMBERED, The Best That Ever Did It!

Thanks to my staff for loading this post for me as I continue to deal with the loss of my grandfather and the recovering of  injuries sustained in the accident. Writing is therapy for me when I can stay awake from the medication given and assisting with my mom’s recovery. Yea, life is so unexpected.  You just keep moving forward so that you won’t get swallowed up in the grief. Thanks again to everyone for the kind words during this difficult time. Docu Vu U A.D. The Queen And I

–Documentaries, I love them when done effectively.  Nahid Persson Sarvestani, an Iranian Exile made the 2008 effective documentary with the  former Queen of Iran Farrah, the wife of the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Rezā Shāh Pahlavi, ruling from 1941-1979.   I remember when the Pahlavi’s went into exile, in the year, 1979.  From the beginning this documentary was intense.  Accused of being a Royalist?  House arrest for months?  Sarvestani was among the revolutionist who just wanted to live among their beloved Iran in peace without the contrainsts of a royal rule.  Many accusations of ill was towards the Shah.  The Shah left in exile from Iran in 1979, in came Khoemieni.  The Revoultionist was looking for a secular democracy and they felt Khoemieni was their new hope.  This didn’t happen.  Mass executions happened, no secular democracy,  horrific sufferings were the reality more horrific sufferings than from the royal rule of the Shah.

There was first misplaced hostility towards the Queen, a Queen for 20 years in Iran who eventually fled with her family into exile because of the revolutionist uprising.  Ideologies of the Shah has been questioned by many who lived in poverty conditions then and still questioned today.  Many felt the Pahlavi’s were moving toward modernization too quick, puppets of the puppetiers ( United States ),  corruption, oppression and extreme use of the extravagant lifestyle.   There are many who question today:  If the  Pahlavi’s remained in power could Iran be more head today?  lingering thoughts on this questions I am sure…

Queen Farrah spoke with much grace and passion on the various countries they went to for refuge.  It was a horrific time for them when leaving Iran.  It was a time of the Iran hostage situation, immediate extradition to Tehran was demanded for The Shah of Iran and Queen Farrah.  The Egyptian President at that time was Anwar El-Sadat.  He gave the Pahlavi’s asylum in Egypt.  July 27, 1980 at the age of 60, The Shah of Iran died of  non-Kodgkin Lymphoma.

Suffering for all, choices for all that are most times than not at times questioned, history defined, thoughts of what could have been still lingers…

The failings of the Shah is still vocal among many. We all have our opinions.  In the documentary Sarvestani struggles with the newfound relationship with Queen Farrah and the questions she still has about the times, the ideologies during the Shah of Iran’s rule.  Riveting, insightful, I loved the documentary.

Yes, I wanted more.

I check myself  when faltering to look at the glass half full.  The poor will always be with us.  I feel it is a constant reminder to be forever humbled yet strive forward to make life conditons better.   When being a part of a revolution, one should not just be a participator but a researcher and a force to examine is this cause benefitting my beliefs.  The wealthy will always be among us too. Where there is wealth, there are more times power.  Alliances are favorable when the components are favorable.  The United States are more times seen as the enemy, because of our freedoms, yet there is oppression here.   I felt there could have been more advancement if they Pahlavi’s stayed in power.  Modernization along with keeping your traditions can be attainable.

Today there is more crisis among Iran.  How poetic is life?  What could have been? What is now?  What is lingering?   What’s ahead?

This film truly showed two different Iranian Women and it’s very compelling to me.  As an artist, one who is passionate about creating original content, I understood Nahid Persson Sarvestani’s frustrations on staying focused on the issues she wanted to be addressed.  The beautiful thing about documentaries, there is no determining how the documentary is going to end because it’s full of raw emtions, and the beauty of real-time events.  I felt Sarvestani’s documentary was revealing in a way others could not gain access.  Well done in my opinion and yet more lingering of  what could have been. We face along with the Iranian people still looking for that ‘light’,  what will be.  What will be now?

This post was written hours before taking my Grandfather to an appointment we never made it to. We were involved in a car accident that took his life, nearly taking my mom’s and myself. Life is fleeting. You never know what is to come from one moment to the next. I will always look at this post and reflect back to how my life changed.  The documentary is indeed riveting for a period in time that many will never forget. Thanks for reviewing this post.

Mariah Carey Reloaded!

Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, the album will be released August ’09 from Mariah Carey.  NEW single, ‘Obsessed’  was released to the world June 16.  Industry insiders already leaked ‘Obsessed’ would be a ‘diss’ song to none other than… Eminem someone who seems ‘Obsessed’ with her.  Is that so?
I love ‘Obsessed’, truly!  Being in the industry, following the careers of many artist  it is no suprise this is just a “Promo Song’, to generate the buzz before the album drops.  We’re talking Mariah Carey here!  She’s been in the game way too long with number one’s after number one’s after number one’s and yes very sure this album will produce some more number one’s.  Mariah has been very consistent for the most part on making sure her albums have original content on them, ballads, and the urbanesque grooves.  I responded to three popular blogs after reviewing the comment content regarding the ‘Obsessed’ release.

COMMENTS unquotes:  “She’s trying too hard to be young, she’s too old for this type of song”,  “I can’t believe she auto-tuned”,  “This sounds like a song for Rhianna or Beyonce’ “, “Why won’t she dress her age?”  The remarks go on and on in the negative-shpere.  Then you have other comments, “Go Mariah, luv it”, “She came back hard on Eminem”, “She looks really good and she’s rocking her wedding ring!”  “I love the song, cannot wait for the next album”.
So like yeah ( in my valley girl voice ), freedom of speech… ROCK THE HELL ON!  I am for it because at the end of the day, no matter what we all think, here is the REAL DEAL… Mariah Carey is gonna be just fine! Believe that! She’s paid those dues and now it’s GAME ON for just the love of music!

MARIAH is going to deliver for her FANS, the faithful fans FIRST AND FOREMOST.  Everyone in the midst of wanting to chop her down, wanting to criticize her for a ‘Promo Song’, wanting to criticize her for the use of Auto-Tune, your words fade into ‘The Wind’  ( pun intended from a Carey song called ‘The Wind’ ) .  MARIAH CARY doesn’t have to build not another fanbase, because her fan base is solid, so solid, SOLID THAN A ROCK.   Mariah can sing, she loves doing her whistle register, she loves being vamped up with the sexy gear, and hell she looks good!  Question:  What is with the act your age and dressing your age?

I read this alot at the blogs and it’s quite hilarious!  I make appearances where there is a much younger crowd than myself but on every ‘Step Out’, this 38 year old looks good and looks younger sometimes than someone 25 years old.  It is all how you carry yourself and how good you are to yourself.  I recently went to dinner with someone.  As the waitress took my order for a glass of Reisling, she had to card me ( yes card me ).  When I was younger I remember being the offended twenty-something  ( wanting to assert myself as a grown-up  and in rebel mode from Janet’s CONTROL  anthem/album ) , nowadays I find it so friggin flattering.  The waitress went on to say, I would have never thought you were 38, you look like you could be in your mid or late 20′s.   It’s all how you take care of yourself.  One can just forget about me doing the gray, or dressing like someone’s mama!  When I was younger and saw women older than me looking good, I did not hate, I was like, ‘I am gonna keep myself  looking right so I can be like that’.   If we all live long enough, each of us will face the day when we are not the ages we are now.  Mariah I say, “Keep blasting that sexy image because it looks good.”  Many young ladies I see are looking really hard. really haggared because they are doing the life of a ‘good time life’ in excess!  Party like a ROCK STAR, but don’t be the face at every party.  It is good to be missed sometimes.  Without going towards the cosmetic surgery, there are many good products out here that will keep you looking fresh, and of course there is the natural flows:  Water, rest, less stress, exercise, having a well balanced diet, loving yourself first, having positive karma, and loving life!

Celebrate women of all ages looking good!  Give the props!  Check yourself to see if there is anything you need to work on to be hotter! Noimean?

Many people criticize Mariah for sounding totally Urban, wanting her to get back to those ‘Pop Music’ days!  On twitter today celeb blogger Perez Hilton was on this tip of wanting that ‘Pop’ sound back from Mariah. Perez isn’t the only one.   I think many people don’t realize how ‘controlled’ Mariah’s career was in the beginning.  If you are truly checking, ‘Vision of Love’ was soulful.  The packaging came of creating this other image that was so not entirely Mariah.  The Ex, Tommy Matolla, Matolla/Sony/Columbia Machine was dilligently at work.  They created a image that was bankable to them, not mixing it up one damn bit.

IMO, and others…

Seeking that INDEPENDENCE, Mariah wanted to switch it up!  Collabing it up with the likes of  Ol’ Dirty Bastard ( RIP ODB ), Bone Thugs N Harmony, Joe, on to Boyz II Men, I mean Mariah was getting into her groove of showing us her NY/City Girl gangsta!  There was someone on the blogs saying she doesn’t have street credibitlity.  OMG, OMG, SMH, SMH…. LOL  This is one reason why 1021Online.com was created!  1021Online.com connects the past with the present because there is alot of SATURATION ON CURRENT CELEBS, Fame, Folly and Foolery.  We give love to the new artist, but we give love to artist from the past as well. Reading comments on various blogs, shows the lack of knowing what happened in the past and the career of a public figure who has laid down a solid foundation isn’t appreciated.   Honestly today I don’t see many artist having a solid fanbase, or a career that will span ten years because of the fickle minds of music listeners today.  Fans from the past didn’t have harsh mindsets telling their favored artist they were too old to sing anymore, go away for awhile, stop trying to be relevant.  I seriously think it is a big issue that will not affect the likes of Carey, Knowles ( she got in just in time ), Houston, Maxwell, and more.  Those we lost like Vandross, Hyman, Riperton, White continue to have their fans.  Mariah is just giving us a taste of upcoming hotness, just toying with our emotions, creating a buzz with ‘Obsessed’.  Many counted her out during the Glitter Movie/Soundtrack after suffering exhaustion but she prevailed. PREVAILED.

I actually like when Mariah goes into the house/dreamy modes like on her DAYDREAM ALBUM,   Daydream Interlude [Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix] and the infectious Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise) .  I think Mariah is wonderful on these type of remixes and the club crowd would love it just like me if she did an entire club album with the flow of these two songs!  Mariah if you read this, for real, do the club album.  It will surely be a whole ‘notha buzz with more fans for sure – as if you would need more fans.  If you haven’t checked out the Dub Mix and Reprises, take a listen.

Definitely this wasn’t a love letter to Mariah.  This was just my way of saying don’t take ‘Obsessed’ so seriously as if  this is all to expect from Mariah Carey’s next album.  I wasn’t a big fan overall of Music Box, and some loved that album! ( laughing RIP to my boy Kevin Glover ) .  I wasn’t a fan overall of the Rainbow album,  Charmbracelet or E=MC2 albums.  The  Glitter album was the bidness and yeah I loved the movie.  The soundtrack was crazy, stupid dope, remakes off the chain, and the original pieces definitely hot.  Carey’s acting wasn’t that bad in Glitter or Wise Girls.  Industry life! We work hard to entertain ya!

You either love Mrs. Mariah Carey Cannon  wit her bad self heading to another number one or ya don’t!….

TEAM MARIAH:   ( In my most southernest drawl evah, making scarlett o’hara look silly ) Yall worked ‘Obsessed’ for the buzz! The blogsphere on the gossip level is off the chain! Execution of the ‘Jades’ my term for ‘hater’s are in effect, good job!  Bring the ballads, the soul and the pop for the new album!

TEAM EM….:   If you respond… you are OBSESSED, checkmate! Don’t….just dont ( I echo out on MC’s whistle register mimmick )

You’re delusional… You’re delusional… Your’re delusional if you think MC isn’t going to get another NUMBER ONE….

You’ve been deja vu’d… ( I fade out with my lame whistle register…. )

Le Fleur, Minnie Riperton

Will somebody wear me to the fair?
Will
a lady pin me in her hair?
Will
a child find me by a stream?
Kiss my petals and weave me through a dream.

For all of these simple things and much more a flower was born

It blooms to spread love and joy faith and hope to people forlorn

Inside every man lives the seed of a flower
If he looks within he finds beauty and power

Ring all the bells sing and tell the people that be everywhere that the flower has come  Light up the sky with your prayers of gladness and rejoice for the darkness is gone Throw off your fears let your heart beat freely at the sign that a new time is born – Les Fleur Minnie Riperton

EXPERIENCING MINNIE

Summer 1979 I was eight years old when Minnie Riperton Rudolph passed away from this earthly atmosphere.  A sensitive, artistic child I was already building my own musical catalog from some great artist. My mother indulged my love of music, my uncles were deep into music, I was getting a great taste of various music and learning very early to tune my ears to the layers of music within one song.   By the age of eight I was performing with a group musically with my piccolo, then to flute ( 7/19 ). I was already beginning my investigative research after receiving the last album of Minnie Riperton MINNIE  by my mother. I begged for this album.

SIDE BAR–Love Lives Forever was also given to me but that was a collabo of guest artist appearances added to her vocals after she passed on…

How much investigative research at age eight Bebe? LOL…. I kept a journal of the press Minnie received after her  cancer came back with a terminal diagnosis. From the public announcement  directly from Minnie of  having cancer on The Tonight Show with Flip Wilson being the fill-in host for Johnny Carson, 1976, to being the First Black Woman Spokesperson For The American Cancer Society.  There was no YOU TUBE to review. I locked into my mind to what I had witnessed from television press, radio and printed media –along with the help of my mother.   I made  entries in my journal of  how I felt as a child of eight when the commercial would play of Minnie Riperton speaking out against breast cancer.  There wasn’t full sentences all the time, sometimes adjectives.

Intriuged.  I felt intrigued by this woman’s story, the music Minnie Riperton gave to the world, her husband and her children.

Minnie Riperton, Mark and Maya Rudolph

I was intrigued at such a young age by this woman’s voice in song, and the strength in the midst of a grim diagnosis.  Minnie was born in 1947, my mom 1948. My mother is a beautiful singer, coloratura soprano, who sung lullabyes to me, sung in the church, weddings, formal programs despite being an educator so I felt a big connection between a singer I didn’t know personally and my mother. Minnie had a daughter, I was a daughter, the album was great in my opinion and my mother could sing ‘Memory Lane’ like a heavenly angel too.  I was totally smitten.

Indulging Me Further…

There was a ABC SPECIAL about Minnie Riperton’s fight against cancer but no one seems to discuss this great moment in time.

I remember asking my mother could I stay up to watch the special because at this time, the cancer was terminal. It was a beautiful special, a woman brave until the end of her life, truly a classy lady. My mother had a subscription to Jet Magazine , which had me in the loop of things with Minnie Riperton. RETURN TO FOREVER was a song from the last album that truly registered with my soul at such a young age. In my opinion, it was a sad, haunting song that spoke of wanting to just have more time. Wouldn’t anyone want more time when they have such a vivacious appetite for life? Minnie had a vivacious appetite for life!

July 12, 1979, The Day A Beautiful Voice, A Beautiful Woman was silenced

My mother sat me down, “My little angel, Minnie Riperton passed away today.”

I was devastated, full of grief, I could not compose myself. Radio stations were playing her songs, it was a sad say.  I didn’t read it, I didn’t listen to this moment from someone else, I lived it.   I was there when history added this event of life into the archives of life. I remember asking my mom when Minnie Riperton passed away, was she going to die of cancer.  I was too close to this situation for such an age.

My grief was hard to control.  My mom stated that she didn’t have cancer and to stop playing the album for a minute. She was very gentle with me and my tender feelings.  I did as I was told because I was grieving.  This woman touched me. She had two young children and I remembered Maya from more press as she took the stage to accept an award for her mother. I was like,  “This could have been me.”  Yes at this age I was feeling this thing we call grief for a woman whoose music touched my life.  I didn’t play the record and I didn’t read or view my mother’s Jet Book showcasing the funeral until a few months later with Minnie Riperton on the cover. Inside this edition, pictures were of her husband, her children, Pam Grier a very close friend of Minnie’s, her parents, her in-laws, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones and more.

I soon got myself together emotionally because summers were fun for me.  They say children can bounce back, very resilient and yes that is very true.  After two months with school almost starting,  I began to play the record again with more records from her that I purchased with my allowance. Saturday’s would be filled with walking downtown with a group of friends and my aunt who was four years older than I.  We would descend upon the record store and just come back with some great records. The more I listened to Minnie Riperton’s body of work, I didn’t feel sad, I felt good, felt happy. The rest of 1979 would evolve me musically. As a very young girl I slowly but surely was coming into my own. More music gained my attention by ’80, ’81 Stacy Lattisaw had blown my mind with ‘Love On A Two Way Street’, “Let Me Be Your Angel’ and more…

Throughout the years I would dust off my albums of Minnie Riperton and play them.  By junior high school I was more advance in playing the flute, and  into the music more than ever.  I was re-discovering Minnie Riperton’s beauty of phrasing words, making songs sound like a sunny day. When compact disc made it’s appearance I was revamping my Riperton Collection.  Updating! Wow if Minnie could just see the technology happening today with the remastering of music.   As a woman in my 20′s I would discuss with others, I wonder when would the family give us more… more of  Minnie, more of themeselves?  I followed Dick Rudolph’s ( husband ) work with artist such as Shanice Wilson and Teena Marie.  Then Maya was on SNL and Marc wasn’t too visible in media he was behind the scenes of media. It was very safe to say, many inquiring minds  were waiting for this recent historic moment.

TV ONE, Unsung Series was presenting MINNIE RIPERTON.  I must admit, I shedded some tears. They were tears of joy upon hearing, and reading this announcement.  The family would give us a glimpse of themselves, more of Minnie’s life and music!  There was no way under my control I would let this moment go by and not view this great moment in time. I also taped it cause I wanted to make sure this moment was captured for me.  Many kindred spirits were so ready to see this special.  Airing June 7 at 8pm est, those who waited finally had the opportunity to see a great biography of the life of Minnie Riperton. OMG I loved how her showcase started.  Minnie’s voice was captured welcoming us to tune in…. priceless.  It was a candid moment from the days in Chicago, rare photos, video footage, and yes the children now adults spoke. The husband who dearly loved this woman spoke, her sister spoke and friends spoke. There were moments where it was too much to just say something , especially from Richard. He loved this woman!

Mya’s honesty on still dealing with losing a mother so young ( not even seven years old ) was so heartfelt.  Maya opened up about how it would be so good to have her mother and her beautiful daughter pearl have a nana/grandaughter relationship was heartfelt too. Marc truly had alot more memories of a supporting mother  coming to his games, being a loving mother.  The sister who truly gave us such great accounts of Minnie’s life was heartfelt too.  It was just a great moment we all were waiting on.  I also respect the fact that Richard did not share the most intimate details of the ending of Minnie’s life  as well as it should be -private.  This was well worth the wait for me at 38 years old. Life is like a great poet –  during the TV ONE showcase of Minnie Riperton, my mother and I watched together.  How poetic is that?

I believe that some spirits come for a short while on earth, fully aware of their purpose.  They recognize their talents, they perfect with gusto, touch people from all walks of lives,  enjoy their lives, they show humility, compassion and they don’t want the sympathy that drowns out the beauty of life, even if it’s a flickr as this life fades and they radiate into the next.  I believe Minnie Riperton was one of those spirits.  I believe the human part of her wanted to stay for her husband and her children.  She according to her husband, according to the performances she did literally a month before dying showed she was living life to the fullest, till the end.  I believe that the half  has never been told. In my life I have seen some things and these very things let’s me know that love lives forever, the spirit is real  and it never dies.  We just move on as humans to another realm, we are allowed to connect back in a way that is not the way of the world. If tuned in,  when a loved one is near,  you can feel their spirit all around you.  I smile at the very thought of  such a wonderful gift of being in tune to loved ones who passed on from my life.  Minnie Riperton faced her Life Storm with grace, class, and much gusto!   Performing up to the end, truly magnificant!  Truly this is an artist that touched my life and the life of others. Minnie, A Perfect Angel Indeed.

Keeper Of Your Flame

 View image detail

Distinguished yet some are tattered while others restored, haunting yet beautiful… THE LIGHTHOUSE.  I’ve always had a fascination  with lighthouses.  There is a story more times than not surrounding many lighthouses. THE KEEPERS… some forgotten, some known, yet their contributions, bravery to the lives of many are to be celebrated.  KEEPERS OF THE LIGHT, trimming wicks, keeping the flames burning for the hopes of safe harbor, watching, waiting, solitude — untold stories never to be revealed — yet historians prevailed with many stories to satisfy those ‘inquisitive minds’.  Question:  When was the last time you satisfied your inquisitive mind?

You are the keeper of your flame. How bright do you radiate for SELF first and others next.  While there are trimming of the wicks, you  should be making sure there are safe harbors within your life. Anyone coming into your life for business or personal should come into safe harbors. You let the entrance begin by watching, observing, and determining should you take the risk.  Life is about taking some risk.  Just as you pick and choose your battles, you pick and choose your risk — whether planned with time to explore your options or quickly due to circumstances where  quick thought process is involved.

I like the feeling I get when I see a lighthouse. As a writer, I guess I long for a good story.  Just like I enjoy meeting people on my travels, striking up a conversation.  While big cities are the buzz, when you enter Small-town USA, this is where some interesting conversation happens.   It is that unspoken silence that let’s me know when I see a lighthouse, magic happened.  While this post is short, I am just being in a nostalgic  moment. You are the keeper of your flame. Think of your life if you care, like a lighthouse.  Timeless, a passage, a safe haven for self and others, designed uniquely, you are your moment in time.

Until Next Time,

Bebe
